Supreme Security Council considers economic, financial, social, political situation in Moldova

President Nicolae Timofti chaired a meeting of the Supreme Security Council in new composition today.

The participants addressed the economic, financial, social and political situation in Moldova.

Prime Minister Valeriu Strelet and the head of the Academy of Sciences, Gheorghe Duca, unveiled reports.

Governor of the National Bank of Moldova Dorin Dragutanu and the head of the National Energy Regulation Agency, Sergiu Ciobanu, were heard.

The main issues tackled at the meeting were the situation in the banking system, increase in power rates, need to sign agreements on financial assistance with foreign partners, as well as aspects  on enhancing the capacity of reaction of national security institutions.

The head of state reiterated the need of a close cooperation between all security and law-enforcement bodies, in order to optimize the reaction capacity. „This will be facilitated by the adoption of the National Security Strategy, that will harmonize the efforts of the state’s authorities,” Timofti said.

The officials adopted a decision containing a string of recommendations meant to enhance the financial and banking security and mitigate the impact of rates' increase on the residents.
